Healthy Ways to Start Your Monday
I remember when I was working in my HR job, I never looked forward to Monday. When I added on a 4-hour commute to a job that I didn’t like, I would go into a full blown “I hate my life” mode. (I didn’t really hate my life, you don’t either.) However, thinking back, there were a couple of things that kept me from totally going crazy and I want to share those with you.
1. Set Your Intentions for the Week.
If you know what your intention is and you have a habit of setting them, make sure to write them down somewhere where you can see them. If you are new to setting intentions or not consistent, here are some questions to ask yourself. Write down what comes up for you after looking at the questions below or anything else that comes up.
- How do you want to feel this week?
- What positive things would you like to encounter?
- What positive choices would you like to make?
- How do you want to show up for yourself?
- How do you want to show up for others?
- Who would you like to connect with?
- What are you open to receiving?
- Where would you like to receive more abundance?
- Who could use some extra love and support this week?
- Where would you like to receive more love and support this week?
2. Create a Sunday Night Ritual.
Sunday nights can either make you or break you. Just as you have a nighttime ritual for going to bed, create a Sunday night ritual to help you appreciate the weekend and welcome the week. For some it might be planning out the week by scheduling in what was mentioned in numbers 1-6 above, it might be book ending your week with something fun and healthy to celebrate, something new to look forward to.
End your week with a little appreciation or celebration and start your week with the same. Maybe you choose Sundays to appreciate and Fridays to celebrate, maybe you choose Mondays to celebrate to give you something to look forward to in the beginning of the week. Just choose what days work best for you.
3. Prep Your Meals.
Prep your healthy meals, work lunches and snacks either on the weekends or the night before. If you pack your lunch for work (which I highly recommend) always do it the night before or when you get home from work. It sets you up for success.
Choose when you will go grocery shopping and prep your food. Make it a date with yourself.
4. Move Your Body BEFORE Work.
Getting up at 4:00 am doesn’t excite you? It didn’t excite me either; however, I did it for 12+ years. The majority of that I actually commuted to the gym before work. Luckily, the last 4 years I’ve chosen to workout from home. I save time, money and get more sleep. Moving your body first thing in the morning MOVES you into a GOOD MOOD.
Trust me. Try it out for 7 days and let me know how you feel. It will be a struggle to start, but it will start your day on a positive note and with a feeling of accomplishment.
5. Choose Your Power Words.
If you’ve read some of my blog posts, I’ve shared a little about power words. (You can read more here.) Basically, I choose three positive words EVERY single morning. These three words represent how I want to FEEL that day. I write these words down and post them daily on facebook to share with the universe.
Just like you choose what you wear in the morning, you can choose how you feel; you “wear” your clothes and your emotions all day long. Choose to be in a shitty mood, well, you’re going to wear it and spill it all over everyone you meet. (Don’t do that, we all know that person at the office that does that.)
Choose positive power words daily. Write them down for 7 days straight.
6. Hydrate and Eat a Healthy Breakfast.
If you want to FUEL a crappy day, skip your breakfast, choose shitty power words and see how that works. If you have a long commute or are around a lot of other people during the day, please nourish your body and mind by starting your day with a healthy breakfast. If you skip breakfast or fuel your body with sugar and food void of nutrients, you will be cranky or easily irritable. I choose to fuel my body with a superfood smoothie, which also contains protein and fiber. It not only gives me energy but starts my day on a positive note (and it’s great for on the go, too).
Hydrate with fresh water first thing in the morning. The food you choose to eat first is what is nourishing your body; make healthy choices.
7. Practice Personal Development.
What do I mean by this? Well, you could pray, meditate, read an inspirational book, listen to a positive podcast or whatever you feel will fuel your mind. Just like the body, your mind needs positive fuel to shift it into a positive way of thinking. Personal development is anything that will help develop you as a more positive person, but it also helps facilitate personal growth.
Spend at least 10-15 minutes DAILY practicing personal development. You choose what works best for you, but do it.
8. Write Yourself Love Notes.
We all love to receive genuine thoughtful love notes, right? Well, why not write yourself a love note? There’s nothing wrong with writing yourself a little love note; you can do it daily, on Sunday nights, Monday mornings or whenever you feel you need a little love. It’s free, simple and no one has to know you do it.
I send out little Naturalita Love Notes to my tribe by email each week, if you want to receive Naturalita Love Notes to your inbox, you can sign up here. It’s free and love filled.
