How do you start your day?
What you do first thing in the morning sets your tone for the day. You choose your clothes and wear them all day long, the same goes with your thoughts. The thoughts you choose you “wear” all day long.
Every day, I CHOOSE how I want to feel. I determine this each morning right when I get out of bed by selecting my THREE POWER WORDS. I have been doing this DAILY for the past 6+months and have yet to miss a day.
By selecting my 3 power words each day, I start my day choosing how I want to feel. I am the only one that can choose and change my mindset. I have this power and no one can take that away. When life can seem out of control, this is what keeps me grounded.
One of my favorite books is Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. A quote that really resonated with me and what helped me start my Naturalita Power Words Practice (PWP) is:
“You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.” ~Elizabeth Gilbert
Some people start their days with prayer, meditation, gratitude lists, working out and/or journaling and others start their days getting up late, rushing to get ready, storming out the door and commuting daily to work. Whatever way you start your day, you are making that choice.
We all have different circumstances, but I firmly believe if what you are currently doing is not working for you, it’s time to start by making a small change to help change your habits. I feel that choosing your three power words is a simple and empowering practice to start your morning on a positive note.
How do I do it?
- Every morning, before I get out of bed, I take a couple of deep breaths, think of my three words, and mentally capture them in my mind.
- Once I am out of bed, I put them into my iPhone notes, share them in my coaching groups and on my Naturalita facebook page. I also write them down so I can see them in my home office.
- If I feel that I am a little off, feeling imbalanced or straying from my power words, I find where I have them written down, refocus on them by taking a couple of deep breaths, and go on with my day.
You can choose them daily, weekly or monthly. Make it work for you.
This week my THREE Power Words are: EMPOWER. CONNECT. ENGAGE.
